History of Dompe Divisional Secretariat

Weke Secretariat can be considered as one of the initial Secretarial divisions which was established in Sri Lanka. This consists of four sub secretarial divisions such as Kirindiwela ,Pugoda Dompe and Keragala.

At the beginning it was called Weke Sub Secretarial Office from the 29 th of October 1992. Later with the intention Of that it should have the name of the Electorate, it was named as “ Weke ” and later it transformed as Dompe Divisional Secretariat since 04 April 1996 .
- According to the evolution of administration, this Secretariat had 51 Grama Niladhari Divisions and at present it owns133 Grama Niladhari Divisions and 168 Villages.

This Secretariat is having a proud history and the historical Keragala village and The Padmawathi Pirivena which was well known at a time for Hansa Sandeshaya are located in this Secretariat.One of the major Rivers in Sri Lanka,"Kelani River" flows down the southern part of this Secretariat.
